Both cars will be fully unveiled at the Detroit Motor Show in January but until then there’s still plenty of information to keep us going.

The 2014 BMW M3 & M4 Engines,2014 BMW M3 Saloon M4 Coupe Revealed

Both vehicles use a 3.0-litre twin-turbo straight six engine, these replace the previous 4.0-litre V8 engine that powered the current M3 saloon and coupe. Despite the reduction in size the new engine produces 11 bhp more of power than the old with it clocking in at 425 bhp. Add to this a weight reduction of 80kg and the 0-62 drops by .5 seconds to 4.1.

Despite this increased power and performance both cars can reach a fuel efficiency of 34mpg whilst emitting 194g/km of CO2. This is a big improvement on the 23mpg and 290g/km emissions of the current BMW M3.2014 BMW M3 Saloon M4 Coupe Revealed.2014 BMW M3 Saloon M4 Coupe Revealed

The BMW M3 & M4 Exterior
This weight reduction is helped in no small part by the use of Carbon Fibre Reinforced Plastic (CFRP). Both the models come with a CFRP roof which results in a weight saving of about 5kg. Both the new M4 and M3 also contain CFRP strut braces under the bonnet. CFRP is also used to create a new prop shaft.

Both models come with a six-speed manual gearbox as standard. A seven-speed dual-clutch transmission is available as an option. Both the new M4 Coupe and M3 Saloon also come with a ‘Smokey Burnout’ mode for dramatic take-offs.

Both vehicles come with an electromechanical steering set-up that has three steering modes. Comfort, Sport and Sport+, all offer different levels of assistance allowing you to be as in touch with the road as you wish, when you wish.2014 BMW M3 Saloon M4 Coupe Revealed

The cars have a noticeably wider and lower body which only accentuates their sports credentials. The wheel arches flare out even further to give the car an almost predatory stance. Add to this new air vents and new and improved spoilers and both cars not only look sportier but also slice through the air better.

The BMW M3 & M4 Interior

As you can expect the interior of the cars are adorned with the classic ‘M’ badge from the gearstick to the door sills. As standard the seats are fairly stripped back and based on racing bucket seats but can be upgraded to be heated and electrically adjustable if you wish.

As standard the BMW Professional Media Package is included. As options you can go for a futuristic HUD, cruise control and fatigue detection. Stepping out of the cabin the cars also come with Adaptive M Suspension, front and rear parking sensors and high gloss exterior trim as standard. On the options list there are also carbon-ceramic brakes.2014 BMW M3 Saloon M4 Coupe Revealed
