Volkswagen has said “the T-Series has been the number one light commercial vehicle in Germany for decades. Its predecessor model has sold around two million units worldwide during its 11 years of production time. The first transporter was launched back in 1950 and around 12 million vehicles have been produced till today.”
Sporting the latest Volkswagen design, the new Transporter is said to be more car-like than ever. The shoulder lines running from front to rear below the windows appear to be more pronounced than before. Higher specification models come with full LED headlamps and LED (light emitting diode) daytime running lights along with a host of safety and security features. A longer wheelbase version will be available as will a high-roof derivative. Passenger side sliding doors come as standard, with an option of driver side sliding doors.
Getting inside, a 6.3 inch infotainment system is offered with a Bluetooth hands-free system and a proximity sensor whereby a person moves their hand close to the screen and it changes from display to input mode bringing up several options. The Transporter will be able to be adapted with three driving modes: comfort, normal and sport. An automatic tailgate operation is offered as an extra option and the vehicle incorporates a range of safety features. The Transporter feels just like an overgrown VW passenger car.
The carrying capacity ranges in size from 4.3m3 to 5.8m3 (metres cubed). Load volumes depend on the model you choose.
Volkswagen is bringing a new engine line-up to the Transporter range. The new Transporter will be offered with updated EU6 emission standards TDI engines which have been developed to meet the tough requirements of a commercial vehicle. The 2.0 litre engine will be available in a petrol version, with a choice of 110kw(kilowatt) and 150kw versions. All its EU5 and EU6 standard engines come with an auto start and stop function as standard to reduce fuel consumption by 15% on average.
